Web hosting is a subscription service that is the actual server computer where your website is installed, and is connected to the internet via high speed fiber optics. This also permits you to manage your website and emails, all accessible via the internet.
Besides hosting your website, web hosting companies also offer other services such as domains (a website address that ends in a .com, or .net for example), and email, so you can send emails from your own domain.
Types Of Web Hosting Services
There are a few different types of hosting. The most basic one is commonly known as shared hosting, and most websites are hosted this way. With shared hosting, multiple websites share the resources of a single server with hundreds of other clients.
Another type of web hosting is called cloud hosting. Large cloud servers often have functions distributed over multiple locations, each of which is a data center. Also known as a Content Delivery Network or CDN, most web hosting companies use these in tandem with the actual web server where a website is hosted, allowing websites to load faster for the end user site visitor. Most web hosting companies offer domains for $10 to $15 per year. Also included with most hosting packages are free email hosting services.
